August 2006
When our friends in Dubai asked if we were looking forward to returning
home for August, Chris and I simultaneously said yes through broad
smiles; summer in Charleston is hard to beat. We found ourselves reminiscing
about beach trips to Sullivan’s, our turquoise boat ‘Aquafresh,’
shrimp tacos, fried chicken, and our loved ones most of all. Upon
arriving in the Holy City, Chris and I, along with Mom, Dad, Felice,
Hume, and our sister Kathleen in from New Orleans, reveled in the
things we enjoy most. Kathleen’s visit was the pinnacle of our
time home as everyone took off work, and we played as a family for
a whole week. Shopping, museum trips, beaching, and cooking dinner
together are among the highlights. We even found time to host a gathering
of friends in Felice and Hume’s backyard under the glow of Moroccan
lanterns, a gift from Mom and Dad’s visit to Dubai. When we
return to the states for good in November, Chris and I will likely
get the same questions: “Why are you leaving? Don’t you
like Dubai?” We will smile, pull out pictures, and show them
our friends and our city – surely they will understand.
