August 2004 There hasn't been much time for traveling this summer since moving into the new shop in April. In an attempt to get away for a night, we made plans to camp on Caper's Island. Felice, Hume, Chris and I rode out to the island on Chris' boat, ignoring the ominous grey clouds overhead. We met friends Liza and Mike there and set up camp. As more clouds rolled in, the rain began to descend upon us. We huddled in the tent as lightening crashed all around us. Felice, being of the nervous sort, thought we were all as good as dead. However, her more adventurous husband was having fun running around in the storm checking bratwurst in the grill. The storm subsided, leaving us alive and full of stories. We resurrected the bonfire and ate heavenly s'mores. Late that night, with a couple of bags marshmallows left, we played the old campfire game "Chubby Bunny." As the winner of the game, I fit nine huge marshmallows in my mouth and said "chubby bunny" three times. The photos of this game are priceless, and I must share them... Our other special treat in July was a visit from our little friends Kelsey and Haley and their mom Leesa. Kelsey and Haley, now eleven and eight, grew up in a house next to our parents in New Orleans. They are like little sisters, and we had soooo much fun with them! The girls had taken glass blowing at camp and made beads in the studio with Felice while Leesa perused the jewelry. We kayaked, shopped, played Taboo, and laughed A LOT! It was so fun to play all weekend; we got a good dose of honesty and youthfulness. Hope you are all having a great summer! Danielle |
